I mixed random items and got two products. Where is the sediment?
You stayed inside the safe range. Push the summed elemental value over the line, then fail the craft.
Sediment
Go past the safe alchemy range on purpose. A failed extreme craft pays sediment.
Updated
A normal craft stays inside the safe range. The range is the sum of the elemental numbers printed at the top left of each ingredient. Stay inside it and you get a product. You do not get sediment.
Players who only shuffled elements without crossing that line got two products instead of one, still with no sediment. Unbalanced is not the same thing as extreme.
Add the top-left numbers until the total is over the safe range shown on the alchemy screen. That state is Extreme Alchemy. It fails often. When it fails, the sediment you receive matches the alchemy value of the craft.
High-number ingredients make this easier. If you only own weak herbs, you may not be able to cross the line yet. That is the wall the original poster hit.
| Craft | Result players reported |
|---|---|
| Inside the safe range | A normal product, no sediment |
| Unbalanced, still inside the range | Often 2 products, still no sediment |
| Over the safe range, and the craft fails | Sediment equal to the alchemy value |
| 1 ironstone herb + 1 mandrake + 1 iris + 1 death cap | 2 sediment, reported as consistent |
| 1 of each of the 4 elemental level-2 herbs | 4 sediment |
On 23 September 2026, patatedbz posted a set that kept returning 2 sediment: one ironstone herb, one mandrake, one iris, one death cap. The same player got 4 sediment from one each of the four elemental level-2 herbs, and had not tested level 3 yet.
Treat that as a player test, not a tooltip. If your herbs use different names in another language, match them by the elemental number on the icon, not by the English word.
Languard noted an oracle card that guarantees sediment when you use free alchemy. If you pull that card, you do not have to fish for a failure.
Oracles are the no-cash draw from the old gods. Check new cards before you burn a stack of level-2 herbs.
The thread started because farmers had already eaten the sediment and the next unlock would not open. Sediment is the material for more Peoplesprouts. Do not turn the whole stock into extra farmers before you know the next unlock's cost.
Keep one craft's worth in the bag. Make more only when a sprout or an unlock is sitting there with a price.
A separate reply on the materials thread: crops can share an alchemy value, but most other ingredients seem to have one product per value. The practical habit is to keep one of each value instead of selling every odd herb.
That player compared it to Bone Nail's previous game, where alchemy is mostly hitting the right level. Equivalent exchange is still the rule Bone Nail printed: junk in, junk-or-miracle out, and a wild element swing makes the result worse.

No. It is one player's repeated result from the Steam thread on 23 September 2026. Use it until you can read your own safe-range number.
